Preparation for Middle School:  Jackson learners are prepared for middle school when they leave Jackson!

  • Top 20 Teens: Life Skills for Middle School
  • Developmental Designs and Advisory: We are focused on students' relationships, autonomy, competence, and fun integrated into our day.  We do morning meeting, advisory, appreciation circles, fix it circles, and class meetings.
  • AVID:  AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in the global society.
  • Organizational Middle School Prepartion: daily planner and binder checks, assignment self-monitoring, behavioral self-monitoring, missing assignment reports
  • Monthly and Weekly Incentive Reward Time for classwork and homework
  • Monthly Goal Setting in all subjects
  • 6th Grade Leadership Opportunities
  • Middle School Exploration:  Students are able to explore the middle school websites and decide which middle school will fit their needs.
  • College and Career Exploration:  We take several fieldtrips to various colleges, talk about what it takes to get to college, and research various career choices

Individualized Reading Instruction

  • Daily Guided Oral Reading Groups: 15-30 minutes small group instruction focused on individualized student reading level
  • RAZ kids: Individualized computer reading program
  • Reading Enrichment Projects integrating reading, writing, and technology
  • Words Their Way focused on hands-on methods for teaching children phonics, vocabulary, and spelling skills.
  • Read Naturally focused on fluency and comprehension in a small group setting.

Individualized Math Instruction

  • SuccessMaker Math Computer Program focused on individualized math level
  • FASTMATH Computer Program focused on basic math facts
  • FLEX Instructional group:  Daily small instruction focused on math concepts
  • MCA Strand Intervention Groups with certified teacher focused on MCA Math Strands
  • Math Enrichment Technology Project using QuestGarden
